The Day You Arrived to Buenos Aires
2012"We wanted to produce a work in the tradition of diaries or sketches of our daily life. While working on this piece, we re-watched films linked to this narrative tradition — including authors like Jonas Mekas, David Perlov, S. Brakhage — until we finally found our own way to build a narration between domestic realism the and the kitsch style.
This piece addresses the topic of ‘communication-through-devices’. We worked on a documentary centered on scenarios of intimate life, using telecommunication recordings, via Skype, and videos captured by domestic devices, such as phones and tablets.
The piece is mainly the outcome of telematic dialogues, where the distance and the cultural differences between the characters we interpreted played a central role. In order to center the narrative in a neutral context, we deliberately edited the video to hide all historical references.
The raw material of this work gathers the banality and the pathos of everyday life, at times written with kitsch poetic overtones. This piece continues our previous ideas of exploring and scavenging the privacy of characters, showing their innerness, the sides that usually remain hidden behind social behaviors."
