A ilha + O destemido
2012"The two paintings are based on scenes from the São Paulo coastline – the place where I was raised, and whose landscape is very familiar to me.
A ilha is a painting made from a photograph. This type of beach architecture designed to harbor boats attracts my attention; it is based on popular wisdom, and made using materials found at the beach itself.
O destemido is a depiction of a friend heading for a path in the woods. This subject is obviously not fearless; his attire shows it, as does his posture, but the idea of a being that doesn’t belong in that setting attracts my attention to this scene.
My works are invariably based on experiences I had. Therefore, they are portraits of my relationship with the world. And such relationship encompasses all of the aspects cited above, even though I don’t find it necessary to illustrate all of them."
