Bypass
2013"All of my works raise questions about the role of contemporary art in narrating histories. Bypass is a political work that addresses the relationship between Zionism and nationalism in Jerusalem.
My research on creating this piece was based on observation. The set of slides that compose it is comprised of sequential images of a road trodden daily by Palestinians leaving their village, on their way to Jerusalem to earn a living, and then returning to their villages in the end of the day. This road navigates around the separation wall.
This daily trek, almost a perfect parallel to the concrete scar of the separation wall, is built of the living footsteps of menial existences. The gaze is directed downward, to the ground, watchfully tracing each footstep, testimony of all those who have walked before me. The work serves as testimony to the survival of people who found themselves locked up behind a wall. This unbearable political situation creates a poetic/aesthetic result, very much like looking at ruins, appreciating their beauty — a result of violence."

"Yediat Haaretz" — which means "knowing the land" — is an Israeli field of knowledge that has driven the creation of this piece. Usually, it relates to a "naive" attitude towards nature, which, "naturally", is not the case in this work.
